ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Carbon tax

Carbon tax is a fee people or companies have to pay for releasing carbon dioxide (CO2) into the air. CO2 is a gas that comes from burning things like coal, oil, and gas. It can cause air pollution and climate change. The money from the carbon tax is used to find better ways to protect the environment and reduce CO2 emissions. That way, people and companies have an extra reason to try to produce less CO2.
