ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Carlsbad Caverns National Park

Carlsbad Caverns National Park is a really cool place where you can explore big caves underground! There are lots of things to see and learn about.

First, let's talk about what makes the caves. The caves were formed a really long time ago when water caused a big hole in the ground to get bigger and bigger. The water carried tiny bits of rock and made them stick together to make stalactites and stalagmites. These look like icicles and huge spikes that grow up from the ground or down from the ceiling of the cave!

When you visit Carlsbad Caverns, you can take a guided tour through the caves. People who work at the park will show you around and explain all the different things you can see. There are light shows that change the colors of the rocks, which makes them look really awesome.

Some animals also live in the cave, like bats and spiders. They are really important to keeping the ecosystem in balance!

Overall, Carlsbad Caverns is a really neat place where you can explore and learn about the amazing things that can happen underground.
