Caspian Sea Monster

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a plane before? Yeah? Well, what if I told you there was a plane that didn't just fly in the air, but it could also fly on the water? That would be pretty cool, right?

Well, that's sort of what the Caspian Sea Monster is! It's not really a monster, it's actually a type of aircraft called an ekranoplan. The Caspian Sea Monster was a really big ekranoplan that was built by the Soviet Union a long time ago.

Now, an ekranoplan is different from a normal plane because it's actually designed to fly really low over the water, almost like it's skimming the surface. It uses something called ground effect to help it stay up in the air. Think about when you skip a rock across a pond - it kind of rides on top of the water, right? That's sort of what the Caspian Sea Monster does, but it goes really fast!

The Caspian Sea Monster was about as long as four school buses put together, and it could carry up to 100 people or tons of cargo. It was designed to be used for things like transporting troops or supplies over water, since it could go really fast and didn't need a runway like a regular plane.
