Casta is a system of social class that was used in some parts of Latin America, especially in Mexico. It was like a system of ranking different people based on their social class or family background. People were divided into groups, usually based on whether they were of Spanish descent, of Indigenous descent, or of African descent. Each group was then further divided into different classes, with the highest class being at the top. This system was used to decide what kinds of rights and privileges each group had, like what kind of jobs they were allowed to do and how much money they could make. In other words, it was a way of separating people into different classes based on their backgrounds.
