Caste system among South Asian Muslims

Imagine you are playing a game with your friends and you all get different roles to play based on your family background. Some of you are given important roles and some of you are given less important roles. This is kind of like what happens in a caste system.

In South Asia, there is a long history of dividing people into different groups based on their family background, occupation, and religion. This system is called the caste system.

Now, when it comes to South Asian Muslims, they are not supposed to follow the caste system because Islam teaches that everyone is equal in the eyes of God. However, in some regions, such as Pakistan and India, the caste system has become closely associated with social and economic status.

So, even though South Asian Muslims are not officially following the caste system, some people still discriminate against others based on their family background, occupation, and ethnicity. For example, if someone’s family came from a “lower” caste background or if they work as a manual laborer, they may be treated unfairly by others who believe they are of a “higher” caste.

It is important to remember that this discrimination is not a part of true Islamic teachings and goes against the idea of equality and justice for all people. We should strive to treat everyone equally, regardless of their background or occupation.
