A rational number is a number that can be written as a fraction, which is a number divided by another number. For example, 1/2, 4/3 and 16/12 are all rational numbers. The "rational" part of a rational number means that the numbers have a reason or meaning to them; in other words, there is a logical explanation for why they exist.
