Okay kiddo, let’s talk about the caste system in Sri Lanka. It is like a big ladder where people are ranked based on their birth and work they do.
At the top of the ladder are the people who are considered the highest caste, and at the bottom of the ladder are the people who are considered the lowest caste.
The highest caste is called the "Govigama" and they are traditionally connected with farming. Then you have many other castes like the "Karava" who are traditionally connected with fishing, the "Salagama" who are traditionally connected with weaving, and many more.
People in Sri Lanka believe that what they do for work is directly connected with their caste. So, if your parents were farmers, then you are also a farmer and belong to the highest caste.
But, this is not fair because all people should be treated the same no matter what their birth is or what work they do. That’s why the government is trying to make sure that people are treated equally, no matter what their castes are.
It is important that we respect each other and treat everyone with kindness and fairness, no matter what caste they belong to.
