ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cauchy net

Okay, so let's say you have a lot of numbers and you want to organize them in a special way. You want to put them in a line where every number is really close to the next one. This is what we call a "net".

But not just any old net will do. We want a special kind of net called a "Cauchy net". This means that not only are the numbers close to each other, but they get closer and closer the further down the line we go.

Think of it like a race. In a regular race, everyone tries to win and be the fastest. But in a Cauchy race, the goal is to get as close to the finish line as possible. The runners start out far apart, but as they get closer to the finish line, they get closer and closer together.

A Cauchy net is kind of like this. The numbers start out far apart, but as we move down the line, they get closer and closer together until they're really, really close. It's a way of organizing numbers so that we know they're all getting closer to each other and becoming more and more similar.

So in summary, a Cauchy net is a special way of organizing numbers in a line so that they get closer and closer the further down the line we go. It's kind of like a race where everyone is trying to get as close to the finish line as possible.
