A long, long time ago, there were bears that lived in big caves. These bears were called cave bears. They were really, really big and strong, and had long shaggy fur.
Cave bears mainly ate plants, like fruits and berries, but they also liked to eat meat when they could find it. They would hunt other animals or eat the leftover meat from other predators.
Unfortunately, these cave bears aren't around anymore. They all died out a very, very long time ago. Scientists think it's because the Earth went through some big changes, like the weather getting colder and the plants that they ate not growing as well anymore.
People find cave bear bones and fossils sometimes when they explore caves. They use these to learn more about what life was like a really long time ago. So even though we don't see them anymore, we can still learn about and appreciate these big, strong bears that once roamed the Earth.
