ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cavendish experiment

Okay, so there was this guy named Cavendish who wanted to figure out how much stuff weighs. He was really interested in figuring out how strong gravity is between two objects.

To do this, he set up a special experiment. He took two big balls and put them next to each other in a room. Then, he attached a smaller ball to a stick and hung it in between the two big balls.

He also had a bunch of other really fancy equipment to measure things like how the balls moved. It was kind of like a big science experiment.

What he did next was pretty cool. He moved the smaller ball closer and closer to the big balls until they started to move just a little bit. By measuring how much they moved, he could figure out how strong gravity was between the balls.

It was a really important experiment because it helped scientists understand a lot more about gravity and how it works. And that's why it's called the Cavendish Experiment!
