ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cellophane

Cellophane is a special kind of thin, see-through plastic. It is made from a type of plant called cellulose that is found in wood and cotton. Think of it like when you make paper crafts using glue and thin paper, but instead of glue, they use chemicals to make the cellulose turn into a plastic-like material.

Cellophane is used to cover or wrap things so you can see what’s inside. For example, when you go to a store and see baskets of fruits wrapped in a clear, shiny material, that’s cellophane. Similarly, when your mom wraps your sandwich in clear plastic, that’s also cellophane.

It is also used for things like packaging and gift wrapping because it is lightweight, flexible, and easy to fold. Plus, it is clear, so you can easily see what is inside without having to open it.

Although cellophane is a type of plastic, it is considered environmentally friendly because it is biodegradable, which means it can break down naturally over time without harming the environment. But remember not to litter it, throw it in the bin, or any water bodies.
