ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cellular network

A cellular network is like a huge group of thousands of people arranged in a huge grid. Each person stands in their own 'cell', and they can talk to their direct neighbours by shouting to them. Everyone in the same area can hear each peoson's shouts, and they can all communicate with one another. This network of people is like a giant telephone network, where each person can talk to one another through the telephone network. So if you want to talk to someone far away on the other side of the grid, you can just pick up your phone, select the right number, and talk to them.
