Okay kiddo, have you ever played with Legos or building blocks? That's kind of like what cementation is, but on a much bigger level.
Cementation is when tiny pieces of minerals stick together to make a bigger rock. It's like gluing Legos together. The minerals are like the blocks, and the glue is like the cement that holds them together.
It happens when sediment (like sand, mud, or even tiny shells) gets buried underground under a lot of pressure and heat. The weight of all that dirt and rock on top squeezes the sediment together really tightly. Then, water carries minerals like quartz or calcite into the spaces between the sediment.
Now here's where the magic happens: the water starts to evaporate, leaving behind the minerals. They start to stick to each other like glue, holding the sediment together. As more and more mineral glue gets added, the sediment turns into rock!
This process takes a really long time, like millions of years, but it's how a lot of the rocks we see around us were formed. Cool, huh?
