Censorship in East Germany was when the government stopped people from saying, writing, or showing things that they didn't like or agreed with. This means that most books, newspapers, magazines, TV, and radio had to be approved by the government before they could be seen or heard by the people. This also meant that people couldn't have opinions that were different from what the government said they should have. This made it impossible for people to express themselves freely and to have different opinions and ideas.
