ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Centro Financiero Confinanzas

Okay kiddo, let me explain about the Centro Financiero Confinanzas. Imagine you have a piggy bank where you keep your coins and bills. Now, think about a lot of people doing the same thing but on a really HUGE scale. A Centro Financiero is just a group of buildings where lots of people keep their money and do financial things like saving, investing, borrowing, and so on.

Now, Confinanzas was a special Centro Financiero located in Venezuela. It's special because it was built by a rich man named David Brillembourg, who wanted to create a place where people could do business and make money. It was supposed to be a very fancy and modern place, with lots of offices, restaurants, and even a helipad on the roof!

But something went wrong. The government of Venezuela didn't like Mr. Brillembourg's ideas and didn't give him the permits he needed to finish the building. So, the Centro Financiero Confinanzas was never completed. However, some people decided to use the building anyway, and they turned it into a sort of community where families, businesses, and even homeless people could stay.

Now, here's where things get tricky. The people who took over the building didn't own it legally, which means they weren't supposed to be there. But they stayed there for years and years, and even started to build homes and shops inside the unfinished building. This made the government angry because they thought the Confinanzas building was dangerous and unsanitary.

Eventually, in 2014, the government of Venezuela decided to take action and remove the people from the Centro Financiero Confinanzas. It was a big operation that involved lots of police officers and army troops, and it took several weeks to complete. Some people were arrested, some were relocated, and some went to live on the streets again.

So, that's the story of the Centro Financiero Confinanzas, kiddo. It was a big building where people were supposed to make money and do business, but it ended up being a place where people lived, worked, and struggled to survive.
