Charles J. Burstone

Charles J. Burstone was a very smart and important man who worked in a field called orthodontics. Orthodontics is the study of teeth and how to make them look and work better.

Mr. Burstone was especially interested in something called braces. Have you ever seen someone with braces on their teeth? They are little metal things that stick to the teeth and help move them around a little bit. Sometimes people get braces because their teeth are crooked and they want them to look straighter. Mr. Burstone made a lot of important advancements in how braces work and how to make them better for people who have to wear them.

One big thing he did was create a special bracket that goes on the tooth to hold the wire that moves the tooth. The bracket is a tiny little thing that is made out of metal and glued to the tooth. Before Mr. Burstone made the new kind of bracket, orthodontists had to tie the wire onto the teeth with a little rubber band. But thanks to Mr. Burstone's invention, the wire could just slide into the bracket and there was no need for rubber bands anymore.

This made braces much more comfortable and easier to take care of. People with braces could brush their teeth better because there were no rubber bands to get in the way.

Mr. Burstone also invented something called the Begg technique, which is a way of moving teeth that is easier on the patient and helps the teeth move faster. It's all really amazing stuff!

So to sum it up, Mr. Charles J. Burstone was a very smart and important orthodontist who helped create better and more comfortable braces for people with crooked teeth. He also came up with a special kind of bracket to hold the wire that moves the tooth and the Begg technique to move teeth faster. And that's why he is such a big deal in the world of orthodontics!
