Chaunk

Okay kiddo, have you ever smelled yummy spices while mom was cooking in the kitchen? Well, one of the special things she might add to make the food taste even better is called chaunk!

Chaunk is a mix of different spices that are heated up slowly in hot oil or ghee. Then, this hot mixture is poured over the top of the cooked food. The spices inside chaunk can be things like cumin, mustard seeds, coriander, and sometimes even garlic and ginger!

When we add chaunk to our food, it makes it really flavorful and fragrant. It's often used in Indian cuisine, but you can use it in lots of different dishes to make them taste even better.
