Chemisorption

Okay kiddo, listen up! So, you know how when we cook something on the stove, it sticks to the pan sometimes? Well, that's kind of like chemisorption!

Chemisorption is when molecules stick to the surface of another material because of a chemical reaction. Kind of like how your food sticks to the pan because of heat and the oils and fats in the food and on the pan.

The material that the molecules stick to is called an adsorbent (kind of like the pan), and the molecules that stick to it are called adsorbates (kind of like the food). The adsorbates and adsorbent form a chemical bond with each other, so they stick pretty tightly!

This type of bonding is different from physical adsorption, which is when molecules stick to a surface just because of simple physical forces (like a toy sticking to a magnet).

Chemisorption can be useful in lots of things we use every day! Like when you put your stickers on your notebook or water bottle, the glue on the back of the sticker chemisorbs to the surface of the notebook, so it doesn't fall off!

I hope that helps you understand chemisorption a little better!
