Sometimes a mom or dad might not be able to hear things because they are deaf. This means that they can't hear sounds like talking, music, or even the phone ringing. But even though they can't hear, they can still be great parents! Their child is called a Child of Deaf Adult or CODA for short.
When a CODA grows up, they might be really good at using sign language to communicate with their parents. Sign language is a special way of talking that uses hand movements to show different words and ideas. Since their parents can't hear, sign language is a great way for them to talk and understand what their child wants to say.
CODAs might also be really good at paying attention to their surroundings and may be more aware of visual cues and body language. They might also be really good at understanding different accents or speech patterns that other people might not be used to.
Growing up with deaf parents may be different from what most people experience, but it can also be really special because the child gets to learn a unique way of communicating and understand how to interact with people who have different abilities.
