ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service

Okay, imagine you have two people who used to be in love and have a child together. But, now they don't live together anymore and they can't seem to get along very well. Sometimes, they argue and fight a lot and the child feels sad and confused about what's going on between them.

Now, let's say that the parents need to go to court to figure out things like where the child will live, what they'll do on weekends, and who will make decisions about important things like school or health. This can be really stressful and confusing for the child because they love both of their parents but they don't want to see them fighting.

That's where the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (CAFCASS) comes in! It's a group of people who are specially trained to help families who are going through hard times like this. They can talk to the child, listen to their thoughts and feelings and help them understand what's happening. They can also talk to the parents and help them make a plan to what's best for their child.

The CAFCASS people are like superhero helpers who want to make things better for everyone in the family. They don't take sides or play favorites. They make sure everyone's voice is heard and everything is fair. They also make sure that the child's best interests are always the top priority.

So, even though it can be tough to go to court, the CAFCASS people are there to make sure that everyone is okay, and help the family come up with a plan that works for everyone.
