ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Children's geographies

Children's geographies is a fancy way of talking about how kids experience and interact with the world around them. It's about how we go to different places, like schools and parks, and how we use and explore those spaces.

Just like grown-ups, kids have their own ways of looking at and understanding the world. But those ways might be a little different than what adults think or feel. For example, think about how grown-ups might find a big city like New York exciting and bustling. But for a five-year-old, all the noise and rushing around might be overwhelming or scary.

Children's geographies is all about paying attention to how kids move through the world and what they need to feel comfortable and happy. This helps grown-ups make spaces that work well for kids, whether that's a playground with lots of play structures, or a school with classrooms that are bright and colorful. By thinking about children's geographies, we can make sure that all the places we go are fun, interesting, and safe for everyone, no matter how big or small they might be.
