ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Chlorosis

Chlorosis happens when plants can't make enough chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is a special thing that helps plants take energy from the sun and turn it into food. When plants don't have enough chlorophyll, they start to turn yellow or even white.

Just like people need food to grow strong and healthy, plants need different things like nutrients and water. But sometimes, plants can't get enough of these things, or something else is stopping them from growing properly. This can cause chlorosis.

So, if you see a plant turning yellow or white, it might mean it's not getting enough of what it needs to live and grow. Sometimes, people can help by adding the right nutrients to the soil, watering it properly, or protecting it from pests or diseases.
