Christianization of Bulgaria happened when the people there changed their religion from a form of traditional belief to Christianity. This happened in the year 865, when Prince Boris of Bulgaria was converted to Christianity. Boris saw that Christianization would help to unite Bulgaria and it would also bring more people from other countries to settle in Bulgaria. After Prince Boris was baptized, he declared that Christianity was the official religion of Bulgaria and he made it a crime for anyone to practice any other form of religion. As a result, many people accepted Christianity and built churches, and soon the entire country of Bulgaria was Christian.
