Christianization of the Sámi people

Okay kiddo, so a long time ago in a place called Scandinavia, there were some people called the Sámi. They had their own special way of living, and their own religion that they believed in.

But then, some other people came along, called Christians, who believed in a different religion. They wanted the Sámi people to believe in their religion too.

So the Christian people told stories and sang songs about their religion to the Sámi people. They also built churches in the Sámi people's villages, where they could come and worship.

At first, some Sámi people didn't want to believe in the Christian religion. They wanted to keep following their own religion. But over time, more and more Sámi people started to believe in the Christian religion.

The Christians also taught the Sámi people how to read and write, and helped them build schools where they could learn more about the new religion.

So today, many Sámi people still believe in the Christian religion, and they go to churches that have been built for them. But some Sámi people also still follow their old religion, and that's okay too! Everyone can have their own beliefs and live together peacefully.
