ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Chromatid

A chromatid is a single molecule of DNA that is tightly curled up and wrapped around proteins called histones. Chromatids are part of chromosomes, which are the structures that carry genes. Every time a cell gets ready to divide (split in half) it makes a copy of its chromosomes, and each copy is made of two chromatids. When all the chromatids are lined up together it's called a chromosome.
