ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Chumbox

Chumbox is a name for those boxes or advertisements that are found at the bottom of news websites or below an article. They look like boxes or boxes that have different things written like "other stories you might like" or "related stories". These boxes are usually filled with a lot of pictures and headlines of different stories or things that they think you might be interested in clicking on.

It's like when you're watching a cartoon on TV, and after the cartoon ends, they show you another cartoon that you might like. These boxes show you different stories on the website that you might be interested in looking at. They are called chumboxes because it's like when you throw chum (food for fish) in the water, and the fish come swimming towards the smell. In this case, the chum is the box, and the fish are like people who come and click on them.

It's important to remember that not all of these boxes have real or trustworthy stories, and some of them might even try to trick you to click on them for different reasons. Make sure to always be careful when clicking on anything on the internet, and if you're not sure if it's real or safe, ask a grown-up for help.
