Cilician pirates

Cilician pirates were a group of bad guys from a long time ago who lived near the coast of a place called Cilicia. They were not very nice because they used to steal things from other boats that were sailing by them. They usually attacked big boats that had lots of treasures on them, like gold or spices.

The pirates were really scary, because they had big ships with lots of strong sailors and weapons like swords and arrows. They would sneak up on other boats and take over them. Sometimes they would even kidnap people and ask for lots of money to let them go.

Lots of people were afraid of the Cilician pirates, even kings and queens. They tried to use their own armies and ships to stop them, but the pirates were very sneaky, and it was hard to catch them.

Finally, a very smart and brave man named Pompey decided to do something about the Cilician pirates. He was the leader of a big group of soldiers, and he decided to go to Cilicia and fight the pirates.

They had a big battle, but Pompey's army was too strong. They defeated the pirates and made them stop stealing from other boats. Pompey even put up some towers and forts along the coast so that the pirates couldn't come back.

From then on, people could sail safely without worrying about the Cilician pirates sneaking up on them anymore.
