ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Circassians in Iraq

Let's imagine you have a group of friends who like to play different games, but they all have their own special toys and ways of playing. And one day, a new friend comes to your group who also likes to play games, but they come from a different place and have different toys and ways of playing. This new friend is a Circassian.

Circassians are a group of people who originally come from an area near the Black Sea, which is on the other side of the world from Iraq. Some Circassians moved to Iraq a long time ago, maybe because of wars or to find a better place to live. They brought with them their own culture, traditions, and language.

Just like your new friend who came to your group of games, Circassians in Iraq have had to adapt to new ways of living and interact with their new neighbors. Some Circassians in Iraq have been there for many generations, so they have become a part of Iraqi society. They might even speak Arabic or Kurdish in addition to their own Circassian language.

However, even though they are a part of Iraqi society, Circassians in Iraq still want to be able to keep their own culture and traditions alive. They might have special celebrations or ceremonies that are specific to their culture. For example, they might have traditional dances or music that they perform at weddings or other important events.

Like all people, Circassians in Iraq want to be recognized and respected for who they are. They have a unique history and heritage, and they want to be able to share that with others. Just like your new friend who brought their own toys and ways of playing to your group of games, Circassians in Iraq want to be able to share their culture and traditions with the world.
