Cities of the Ancient Near East

You know how you live in a city? A long, long time ago, people also lived in cities, but they looked very different from the cities you know today! These cities were called "ancient cities" because they were built a really long time ago.

The "Near East" is a place that's far away from where you live, and it includes countries like Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Turkey. A long time ago, people lived in this part of the world, and they built cities that were very special.

The first thing you should know is that people who lived in ancient cities didn't have the technology we have today. They didn't have machines to dig tunnels or bulldozers to move dirt, so they had to build their cities with their hands. That means they had to use rocks, mud, and bricks made of clay to build their homes, buildings, and walls.

Some of the most famous cities in the ancient Near East include Babylon, Ur, and Aleppo. These cities were important because they were located in places where people could trade goods and talk to each other. For example, Babylon was built near a river, which made it very easy for traders to go back and forth, selling things like food and clothes.

Inside these ancient cities, people would live in big buildings with lots of rooms. There were also big walls around the cities to protect the people from enemies who might try to attack.

Although ancient cities might seem very different from the cities you know today, they were important because they helped people learn how to live together and share their ideas with each other. Even though these cities might be gone today, their legacy lives on in the way we build our own cities today!
