ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

City Island, Bronx

City Island is a small piece of land that sits in the Bronx and is surrounded by water. It's really special because it's like a little island that's part of a big city! City Island is only about a mile and a half long and it's kinda shaped like a fish!

A long, long time ago, before the settlers arrived, Native Americans called The Siwanoy Tribe lived there. They would use the island for fishing and hunting. Later on, in the 1800s, people from around the area started to visit the island for a fun day out, and soon some people started living there permanently. It was easy to catch fish and oysters, and they could sell them to other people in the city who didn't live close to the sea.

Now, City Island is known for its delicious seafood and fishing. There are lots of fishing boats docked in the harbor, owned by people who live on the island. There are also lots of cool little shops and restaurants for people to visit. They even have their own special parade every summer! It's a fun place to visit and learn about the history of the island, and the fun things to do there.
