Civilian Conservation Corps

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a group of people who worked together to help protect and fix up the environment in America during the 1930s. It was started by the president at the time, Franklin D. Roosevelt, to help during the Great Depression, which was a really tough time for people in America.

The CCC was made up of young men between the ages of 18-25 who were unemployed and looking for work. The government paid them to work on projects that would help the environment. These projects included things like planting trees, building parks and trails, and fighting forest fires.

The CCC worked in camps that were set up all over the country. In order to join, the men had to be in good health and willing to work hard. They also had to follow rules and live in the camps during the time they were working on the projects.

The CCC helped the environment in many ways. They planted over 3 billion trees, which helped to prevent erosion and create new forests. They also built trails and roads that made it easier for people to visit and enjoy the national parks.

Overall, the CCC was an important group that helped not only the environment, but also the people who were struggling during the Great Depression. They taught people to work hard and gave them hope for a better future.
