Clear ice

Clear ice is like a magic trick that happens in your freezer. When we put water in the freezer to make ice cubes, they usually come out cloudy or white. But sometimes, if we use really cold water, a special kind of container, or freeze the water slowly, the ice turns clear! This means you can see through it, just like looking through a clear window.

But why does clear ice look different than cloudy ice? Well, it all has to do with how the water freezes. When water freezes, it forms ice crystals. These crystals can either be big or small, and they can also trap tiny air bubbles. When the ice has a lot of these air bubbles, it looks cloudy or white. But when the ice freezes slowly and evenly, the crystals have time to get bigger and push out the air bubbles. This makes the ice look clear and shiny.

Clear ice can be fun to play with and look at, but it can also make your drinks taste better! Because it's free of impurities and air bubbles, it melts slower and doesn't dilute your drink as much. So next time you make ice cubes, try using really cold water or a special container to see if you can make clear ice. It's like a fun science experiment you can drink!
