ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Clearcutting

Clearcutting is when people cut down a whole bunch of trees in one area at the same time, like mowing a lawn. When they clearcut, they usually leave no trees standing. This can make it easier to use the land for things like building houses, making paper and other products, or growing crops.

But cutting down all the trees can change the entire forest and the animals that live there. Some animals might lose their homes, and some trees might not grow back for a long time, which can hurt the environment. So, people have to make sure they think about the good and bad effects before they clearcut.
