ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Climate change and poverty

Hey there kiddo! You know how we have different seasons like summer, fall, winter, and spring? Well, what if I told you that the Earth is getting a little bit warmer each year and that it's causing some problems for people around the world? This is called climate change.

So, when the Earth gets warmer, it can cause things like droughts, which means there isn't enough water for people to grow their crops. Without enough crops, people might not have enough food to eat. It can also cause extreme weather events like hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods, which can damage homes and businesses, making it harder for people to make a living.

Now, imagine if you were a family living in a place that was affected by climate change. If you couldn't grow crops and didn't have any money, you might not have enough food to eat or a safe place to live. This is called poverty.

Many people who are already living in poverty are the ones who are most affected by climate change because they don't have the resources to protect themselves or recover from the damage caused by extreme weather events. And if they lose their homes and livelihoods, they might not have anywhere to go and no way to make money, leading to a cycle of poverty.

That's why it's really important for us to find ways to stop climate change so that people all over the world can live happy, healthy lives without worrying about losing their homes, crops, or income. We can all do our part by using less energy, recycling, and being kind to the Earth.
