ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Clothing physiology

Okay, so just like how our bodies need food and water to survive, they also need protection from the outside world. Clothes are one way we protect our bodies. But there's more to it than that!

Our skin is very sensitive. If you touch something hot, your skin will feel it and it might even hurt. Clothes protect our skin from things like hot surfaces, sharp objects, and extreme weather. If it's really cold outside, you need thick clothes to keep you warm. If it's really hot, you need light clothes to let air in and keep you cool.

Our bodies also produce sweat, which is like a natural air conditioning system. It cools us down when we're too hot. But if we wore heavy clothes, sweat wouldn't evaporate as easily and we'd feel uncomfortable and sticky. That's why we need clothes that let sweat escape and dry quickly.

And finally, clothes can also affect our mood and self-confidence. If you're wearing clothes that you like and feel comfortable in, you'll feel happier and more confident. If you're wearing clothes that don't fit well or are uncomfortable, you might feel grumpy and unhappy.

So clothing physiology is all about understanding how clothes affect our bodies and how we can choose the right clothes to protect and make us feel good.
