ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Coal Creek Station

Coal Creek Station is like a big machine that makes electricity using coal. Coal is a rock that we find in the ground and it's black and hard. At Coal Creek Station, we take the coal and burn it using fire to make heat. This heat then makes water boil and the boiling water makes steam. The steam then goes through a big machine called a turbine which spins around and generates electricity.

This electricity then goes into lots of wires and travels to homes and businesses where we use it to power things like lights, TVs, and phones. Coal Creek Station is located in North Dakota and it's one of the biggest power plants in the United States. It's like a giant puzzle that has to work perfectly so that we have electricity for everything we need to do every day.
