Coastal defence and fortification

Okay kiddo, so you know how we live near the water at the beach, right? Well, sometimes the water can be really strong and can cause big waves and storms that can damage our homes and towns near the coast. Coastal defence and fortification is like putting up a shield to protect us from those waves and storms.

So, just like we have walls around our house to keep us safe, we build walls and barriers to protect our towns and cities from the water. These walls can be made of things like concrete, rocks or dirt, and they are built along the edge of the beach or coastline. Sometimes we also build big rocks that go into the water to break the waves up before they reach the shore.

Another way we defend our coast is by building forts. Forts are like big, strong castles that are built near the water's edge. They have thick walls, towers and cannons to protect us from enemies who might try to attack us from the sea.

Coastal defence and fortification is important because it helps us stay safe during storms and other natural disasters as well as from enemies who might try to invade our towns and cities from the water.
