Code rate is like a secret message that mommy and daddy write to each other, but it's not just any message, it's a fancy message that has some extra letters or numbers in it to make it harder to understand.

For example, they might write a message like "Hi my love, I miss you" but instead of writing it like that, they might write it like "H5 i5 my5 lo5ve5, I m5iss5 you5" to make it a little bit harder for someone else to understand what they're saying.

In the same way, computers also use code rate to make messages harder to understand by adding extra bits of information to each message. These extra bits help to protect the message from getting scrambled or lost when it's sent over long distances or through noisy channels, like when you talk on the phone and the person on the other line sounds fuzzy or far away.
