A long time ago, people used to trade things like food or animals in exchange for other things they needed. But as time went on, people realized it might be easier to use little pieces of metal to represent the value of things instead of trading directly. This was called coinage.
In the Saxony region of Germany, a long time ago, people began making their own coins to use in their trading. These coins had special designs on them to show that they were from Saxony. They were made out of silver or gold, and were different sizes depending on how much they were worth. For example, a small coin might be worth only a little bit, while a big coin might be worth much more.
The people who made the coins were called "minters." They had to be very careful when they made the coins so that they all looked the same and were worth the right amount. If one coin was too heavy or too light, it might not be worth as much as the others.
The coins were used for a long time, and people in Saxony continued to use them even as other countries started to use different kinds of coins. The coins from Saxony were unique and special, and people still collect them today as a way to remember the history of the Saxony region.
