Column of Phocas

Alright kiddo, the Column of Phocas is a big stick made of stone that is very tall and stands in a city called Rome, Italy. A long time ago, a man named Phocas was the emperor of Rome and his people really liked him. So, after he passed away, they made this big stick to remember him and put it right in the middle of the city.

The stick has carvings on it that show a story about when Phocas helped the pope, who is a very important leader for some people. The story says that Phocas was very nice to the pope and even gave him a big building called the Pantheon, which the pope then used as a church. That was a very nice thing to do!

So now, many people come to see the Column of Phocas to remember the nice emperor who helped the pope and did good things for their city.
