A comet is a big ball of ice and dust that travels around the sun. The ice and dust make a long, fuzzy cloud called a tail that follows the comet as it moves. Comets usually stay in an icy region of space far from the sun called the Oort Cloud. When a comet gets close to the sun, it starts to warm up and the ice melts and shoots out particles of dust and gas, which create its lovely tail. Scientists are still trying to learn more about comets and where they come from.
