ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Committee of the Regions

So, you know how when you're playing with your friends or in school, sometimes you want to make a decision, like what game to play or where to go for a trip? Well, grown-ups also have to make decisions about their cities and towns, like how to keep them clean and safe or what kind of parks to build.

But since there are so many cities and towns in Europe (that's the big group of countries we're part of), it would be really hard for just one group of grown-ups to make all these decisions. That's why the grown-ups made a special group called the Committee of the Regions.

This group is made up of grown-ups from all the different cities and towns in Europe, and they meet up to talk about what needs to be decided for their own towns and cities. Then, they tell the main group of grown-ups in Europe what they think should be done for their towns, so that everyone's opinions can be represented.

It's kind of like if you and your friends all got together to talk about what you wanted to do for your own school or playground, and then told the grown-ups in charge what you thought should happen. Cool, huh?
