Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD) is a mental health disorder that happens after going through a really difficult experience, sometimes over a long period of time. It's like regular Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) except it's even worse.
C-PTSD can happen when someone is abused or neglected over an extended period of time, like years. This kind of abuse or neglect can be physical, emotional, or even sexual. They might not feel safe or in control of their lives, and feel like they can't get away. They might be constantly worried about getting hurt again and feel very scared, sad, or angry all the time.
With C-PTSD, the person might have lots of nightmares, difficulty sleeping, and flashbacks to bad memories, where it feels like they are re-living the awful event. They might also have trouble trusting people and have difficulty with their relationships.
If someone you know has C-PTSD, the best thing you can do is to be there for them. Let them know you are there for them, be patient and understanding, and let them know it is ok to get help. Encourage them to talk to a doctor or therapist, who can give them treatment to help them through this tough time.
