ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Computational systems biology

Computational systems biology is like playing with Legos, except instead of building a castle, we are building models of living things like cells, organs, and even entire organisms!

Imagine you have a bunch of colored blocks and each block represents a different gene or protein in the body. These genes and proteins work together to keep our body healthy and functioning properly.

Sometimes, certain genes or proteins don't work quite right and can cause problems like diseases or disorders. Computational systems biology helps us understand how these genes and proteins interact with each other and how they can be fixed to help the body work better.

Think of it like putting together a puzzle. We take all the blocks (genes and proteins) and try to figure out how they fit together to make a complete picture of the body. We also use computers to help us create these models and figure out how changes in one part of the body can affect other parts of the body.

By understanding how these different parts work together, we can develop new treatments for diseases and disorders and help improve the overall health of the body.
