Concordat of 1855

A long long time ago in 1855, two big groups of people in a country called France, the government and the church, had some problems and they wanted to make things better. So they made an agreement called the "Concordat of 1855". This agreement had some rules that both groups had to follow so they could work together better. One of the rules was that the government could choose who would be a bishop for the church, but the church could still decide who would be a priest in each church. This agreement made things better between the government and the church in France.
