ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Concrete shell

Imagine you have a big balloon that you blow up until it’s really big and round. Now imagine that you take a certain kind of mixture called concrete and you pour it over the balloon until it completely covers it. You let the concrete dry and harden, then you pop the balloon and the result is a hard, round shell made out of concrete. Congrats! You’ve just made a concrete shell!

Concrete shells are a lot like the eggshells that protect eggs. They are strong and rigid on the outside, but hollow on the inside. You can make concrete shells in different shapes and sizes, depending on the size of the balloon you started with and the shape you want the final product to be.

Concrete shells are used in all sorts of things, like roofs or walls for buildings, arches for bridges, and even sculptures. They are preferred over other types of materials because they are very durable and can withstand a lot of weight and pressure. Plus, they are relatively easy to make once you get the hang of it!
