ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Thin-shell structure

A thin-shell structure is like a big bowl that's made out of something very strong, like metal. Imagine a like a mixing bowl in the kitchen that's made out of metal instead of plastic. It's not exactly the same, but it can give you the idea. A thin-shell structure is made of a curved sheet of metal and it's very strong and can hold up a lot of weight because it's shaped like a bowl. The curves of the structure make it much stronger than if it was just a flat sheet of metal. Thin-shell structures are often used in architecture, bridges and other big structures.
