Ernest Edwin Sechler was an American scientist who invented the electric refrigerator. He studied engineering at the University of Pittsburgh and was part of the team that worked to make the first electric refrigerator in 1913. Electric refrigerators use electricity to keep food cold so that it stays fresh longer. Sechler and his team put together a machine that was the first to use a system of cooling coils and a compressor to regulate temperature, which makes the refrigerator quite efficient. Sechler’s refrigerator was so successful, it is still used today.
