Concrete slump test

A concrete slump test is like checking if the batter for a cake is the right consistency before we bake it.

We take a little bit of the mixed concrete and put it into a special metal cone-shaped tool. We gently pat the sides of the cone with our hands and then turn it upside down onto a flat surface.

Next, we take the cone-shaped tool off and see how much the concrete has spread out or “slumped”. If it’s too much, it means the concrete is too watery and we can’t use it. But if it’s just right, it means the concrete is good to use for building things like houses and bridges!

It’s important to do this test to make sure the concrete is strong enough to hold things up and keep us safe.
