Cone (linear algebra)

A cone is a 3D shape that looks like a ice cream cone or a party hat. It is made up of a flat shape called a base (it can be a circle, square, triangle or any other shape) and a pointy part at the top called the vertex.

In linear algebra, cones are used to help us understand and visualize different types of mathematical concepts.

Imagine you have a bunch of arrows in 3D space. These arrows can have different lengths and directions. We can use cones to help us understand which arrows are pointing in the same general direction.

We draw a cone shape around the arrow to show which other arrows are pointing in the same direction. All the arrows that can fit inside the cone are said to be in the same "cone". If an arrow is pointing in a different direction, it won't fit in the cone and is not part of that cone.

We can use cones to study things like matrices, vectors, and geometric shapes. They help us group together things that are similar and separate out things that are different.
